Drivers licenses issued in the United States are not valid in Latvia. Therefore, to be able to drive in Latvia, you will need to obtain an international driver's license and use that together with your U.S. driver's license. (Please contact the nearest AAA office to obtain an international driver's license.) You also have an option of exchanging your U.S. drivers license for Latvia's driver's license by taking a driving test in Latvia. If you are planing to stay in Latvia for more than six (6) months, you will need to obtain a driver's license from Latvia. (A driver's license issued by a foreign country can be used in Latvia only if it indicates a category of vehicle you are allowed to drive as it is established by the 1968 Vienna Convention on Road Traffic.)
