Requesting documents from Latvia

Request for criminal records check:

In order to request a document regarding a criminal record, or lack thereof, you must submit to the Embassy:

1. a completed and signed request form ;

2. a copy of the information page from the person's passport with indication on it "I, (Name, Surname), agree that my data will be used in the process of my criminal records check." with your signature;

3. copy of a document which states person's legal status in the United States of America (permanent resident card, work permit, valid US visa and I-94 form, or US passport);

4. payment - $40 USD in the form of a money order made out to Embassy of Latvia;

5. pre-paid, self-addressed envelope for returning the document to the person.



If you need this document certified with Apostille, then the payment - $95.00 USD must be included.

Request for birth certificates, marriage certificates, death certificates and other documents:

If you wish to obtain an official document issued in Latvia (a birth certificate, marriage certificate, death certificate or other document) you must submit to the Embassy either by mail or in person:

1. a completed and signed request form in 3 copies;

N.B.: When filling out the request form, please read the form carefully and complete only the sections related to the document you are requesting, and to the person for whom you are making the request.

2. payment for each document - $95 or $105;


If payment is $105 USD , the document you will receive will be certified by Apostille (certification) for official use in the USA.


If you do not need the requested document for official use in the USA, payment is $95.00 (per document).

If the request is for documents from the Latvian Archives, then additional payment will be determined individually upon receipt of the document.

3. the person requesting the document must also send a copy of a document which shows the person's identity and legal status in the United States of America (permanent resident card, work permit, valid US visa and I-94 form, US passport etc.);

4. pre-paid, self-addressed envelope for returning the document to the person.


Following are examples of documents you can request:

• a birth, marriage or divorce certificate if these events took place in Latvia;

• information about birth, marriage, divorce or death of your relatives in Latvia;

• information about the duration of your employment in Latvia, education, military service, pension;

• documents on real estate in Latvia.



Payment of the fee for requesting any document must be submitted along with the request forms, in the form of a money order addressed to: Embassy of Latvia. The Embassy can only take exact cash for payment in person and does not accept personal cheques, credit or debit cards.

Please be aware it may take 2 to 3 months to receive the requested document.

The Embassy cannot take responsibility for information submitted on the forms, and notes that the processing fee is non-refundable, even in the event if the document requested from Latvia is not found.
