President Zatlers on working visit to the United States

From May 13-21, 2009 President of Latvia Valdis Zatlers will be on a working visit to the United States, where he will meet with various representatives from the U.S. administration, as well as give the keynote address at the U.S.-Baltic Foundation Gala.

During his visit to Washington, DC, President Zatlers is scheduled to meet Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Defense Secretary Robert Gates and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. During the meetings, the President will discuss economic affairs and security issues, including Latvia’s participation in the military operation in Afghanistan.

He will also meet with senators on Capitol Hill, as well as give an address "Opportunities and Challenges Beyond 2009: The Role of Transatlantic Partnership in a Post-Economic Crisis World" organized by the Brookings Institution. On Sunday President Zatlere and Mrs. Zatlere will visit the Latvian community in Rockville, Maryland.

The President will also visit Seattle, Washington and the surrounding area.
