On May 14, 2009 during a working visit to the United States President of Latvia Valdis Zatlers met with US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton at the State Department. President Zatlers also met with Defense Secretary Gates at the Pentagon. He also had meetings on Capitol Hill, as well as presented State Awards to a number of recipients in the United States. On Saturday President Zatlers gave the keynote address at the annual US-Baltic Foundation Gala.
