On April 25 at the State Department, President Valdis Zatlers met with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. During the meeting, they discusssed the Visa Waiver Program. They also discussed the promotion of economic bilateral relations and cooperation in the energy sector. Much attention was also paid to cooperation of the armed forces of both countries in the allied mission in Afghanistan. The results of the recent NATO Summit in Bucharest and the domestic political development of Ukraine and Georgia were also discussed. Following the meeting at the State Department, President Zatlers held a press conference at the National Press Club. That afternoon he departed for Cleveland, where he will be the keynote speaker at the Annual Congress of the American Latvian Association.
