From November 10 – 13, 2008 Andrejs Pildegovics, Latvia’s Ambassador to the United States and Mexico visited Mexico City. While in Mexico the Ambassador and Ms. Beatrice Aboltina-Trueblood, Latvia’s Honorary Consul in Mexico, hosted a reception in honor of Latvia’s 90th anniversary. Harpist Gunta Salaks of the Mexico City Symphony Orchestra performed at the reception, which was attended by Latvians living in Mexico and friends of Latvia. During his visit to Mexico Ambassador Pildegovics met with Dr. Rafael Fernandez de Castro, President Calderon’s foreign policy adviser and Deputy Foreign Minister Lourdes Aranda to discuss issues related to Latvia-Mexico economic and cultural cooperation. This year Latvia is celebrating 90 years since the proclamation of independence on November 18, 1918.
