Latvians have historically been a diverse and tolerant society free of ethnically motivated violence. We continue to strengthen our society by facilitating integration of people of various ethnic, social and cultural backgrounds into the Latvian nation. The integration of society in Latvia is an historical opportunity to jointly develop the state in a common effort based on universal human values and interests, and to achieve coherence among the interests of all persons belonging to Latvia, on the level of an individual as well as in social groups and ethnic communities. Integration is a choice for a secure future for us, for our children, and grandchildren. The Government of Latvia has confirmed a Framework Document of the National Program called “Integration of Society in Latvia.” A National Programme is being designed in order to stimulate the integration of Latvia's society through a broad, coordinated and coherent multi-sectoral national strategy. The mission of UNDP Latvia is to provide development assistance and promote policy dialogue in support of sustainable human development towards a democratic and cohesive society in Latvia.
