On November 19, 2008 at a ceremony at the Embassy of Latvia Ambassador Andrejs Pildegovičs was presented with a special gift from Latvia’s Honorary Consuls in the United States. The gift – two wall clocks, one showing Riga time, the other Washington, DC time - was from Honorary Consuls Karlis Steinmanis (Ohio), John Medveckis (Pennsylvania), Jeffery A. Yarchever (California), Stephen Lee Zirschky (Washington State), Stephen Payne (Texas), Ahmet M. Oren (New York State), and Barry Mowell (Florida) on the occasion of Latvia’s 90th anniversary. Ambassador Pildegovičs thanked those present for the gift and remarked that the clocks will serve not only as an elegant accessory to the interior of the Embassy, but also as a symbol of the close relations between Latvia and the United States.
