Energy delegation visits the US

From March 5-12, 2007 a delegation of energy experts from Latvia visited the US. The delegation was headed by Ugis Sarma, director of the Energy Department of the Ministry of Economics. He was accompanied by representatives from the Ministry of Economics, the Latvian Investment and Development Agency, Latvenegro and the Institute of Physical Energy.

During their visit to the US the delegation met with representatives of the State Department, Department of Energy, Council on Environmental Quality and the National Energy Marketers Assocation. In addition to their program in Washington, the delegation also visited Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where they met with representatives of the Pittsburgh National Energy Technology Lab, Professional Security and Health Institute and the Morgantown electric station.

The goal of the visit was for the Latvian specialists to learn about current trends in US energy policy, to gain experience in using alternative energy sources and "clean" coal development technology.
