EMBASSY OF LATVIA PARTICIPATES IN MARATHON READINGS OF EUROPEAN POETRY IN MOTION® In celebrating the 50th anniversary of the European Union, Latvia - together with other EU member states - is taking part in the project Poetry in Motion® in Washington DC. Latvia is participating with five poems by various Latvian poets - Vizma Belsevica, Imants Ziedonis, Liana Langa, Maris Salejs and Karlis Verdins. On May 5 the Goethe-Institute in Washington DC hosted the first poetry marathon in which representatives of each EU member state read their country’s poems in the original language, followed by the English translation. The event was moderated by poet Ernie Wormwood. The final marathon took place May 20, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at "Busboys and Poets” (2021 14th Street, NW), which combines a restaurant, a political bookstore and a performance space.
