In recent weeks diplomats from the Embassy of Latvia - together with diplomats from other embassies which are candidates for the US Visa Waiver Program (VWP); as well as current members of the VWP and representatives from the Delegation of the European Commission - have intensified their activities on Capitol Hill. Expansion of the VWP is being brought up regularly in Congress in meetings with various Congressmen, Senators and their staffers. The expansion of the Visa Waiver Program is consistently discussed when Latvian officials meet their counterparts in the United States. It is expected that Latvia’s inclusion in the VWP will be the main issue President of Latvia Vaira Vike-Freiberga will bring up with representatives of the US administration and leaders of the Senate and House during her visit to Washington the first week of May. To further diplomatic activities, the Embassy of Latvia has signed a cooperation agreement with “Dutko Worldwide,” which will complement Latvia’s efforts towards the inclusion of Latvia and the other countries in the VWP.
