On January 12, Ambassador Maris Riekstins returned to Latvia to assume the position of Chief of Staff at the Office of Prime Minister Aigars Kalvitis. Mr. Maris Selga is heading the Embassy of Latvia until the arrival of a new ambassador. Ambassador Riekstins served as Latvia's Ambassador to the U.S. from December 2004-January 2007. He was also Latvia's Ambassador to Mexico. Prior to his position as Ambassador, Mr. Riekstins served as State Secretary in Latvia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
