Ambassador Pildegovics presents credentials to President of Mexico

On May 8, 2008 at the National Palace of Mexico (Palacio Nacional) in Mexico City, Andrejs Pildegovics, Latvia's Ambassador to the United States, presented his Letters of Credence to Felipe Calderon, President of Mexico, thus accrediting him as Latvia's 4th non-resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Mexico.

Over the last years in particular, relations between Latvia and Mexico in the areas of trade, culture and education have intensified.

In 2005 the Mexican construction material manufacturer Cemex became the owner of the cement works in Broceni, Latvia, with plans to enlarge the plant significantly. Mexico is the only country in Latin America with which Latvia has established a joint committee in culture, education, and sport. A convention for the avoidance of double taxation and for the prevention of fiscal evasion between both states is being prepared. Political consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Latvia and Mexico are held on a regular basis.

Mexican President Felipe Calderon has been invited to visit Latvia.
