Ambassador participates in inauguration ceremonies

On January 20, 2009 Ambassador Andrejs Pildegovics represented Latvia at the inauguration ceremony of US President Barack Obama. Together with other ambassadors accredited to the United States, Ambassador Pildegovics attended the swearing-in ceremony at the Capitol, the diplomatic luncheon at Blair House, and the Pennsylvania Avenue parade. That evening Ambassador Pildegovics and his wife attended an Inaugural Ball at Union Station.

During the events the Ambassador had the opportunity to speak with Secretary of State designate Hillary Clinton and former US President Bill Clinton. In his conversation with the Clintons he sent regards from President of Latvia Valdis Zatlers and Minister of Foreign Affairs Maris Riekstins. Ambassador Pildegovics expressed his country’s gratitude for the continous support of the US and expressed Latvia’s interest in continuing this partnership with the new administration.

On the morning of January 21, Ambassador Pildegovics attended the Inaugural Prayer Service at the Washington National Cathedral.
